Gaffney House

Situated on the Louisville riverfront, the Gaffney House is an eclectic 1927 residence combining Classical, Arts and Crafts, and Mayan architectural styles. The project required modernizing a property that had sat vacant for decades while addressing the complex flooding risks posed by the site’s fluctuating water levels. We collaborated with the Army Corps of Engineers to implement flood mitigation strategies that protect the structure without altering its historic character. The design restores original features such as the Mayan-motif concrete floors and stained glass while reactivating three stories of rear balconies. This rehabilitation secures the building’s legacy and reconnects the interior to panoramic views of the Ohio River and Six Mile Island.
